WHAT IS A COASTAL UPGRADE AND DO I NEED IT?

A coastal upgrade for any of our stone coated steel metal panels involves applying an extremely weather-resistant resin to the back side of the panel. Normally, these panels come with a prebuilt thin protective film over the exposed galvalume metal on the back, which, although durable and very long-lasting, is not 100% effective against the corrosive effects of salt and other minerals commonly found at the coastline. By baking a thick layer of resin—akin to the texture of Rhino Lining—on the back, we encapsulate the metal entirely, significantly enhancing its resistance to harsh coastal elements. This process essentially seals the entire panel in a protective coating, making it almost as if the panel has been dipped in a robust, protective rubber, rendering it nearly impervious to environmental wear from both salt and ocean-borne minerals. This upgrade not only extends the life of the panel but also ensures that it maintains its integrity and aesthetic in challenging coastal environments.

Inland areas typically lack the intense corrosive environment created by salt spray and coastal humidity, where the prebuilt thin protective film is more than enough. By applying a protective resin coating to the back of the panels, we ensure that they can withstand the unique challenges posed by these coastal conditions. In short, if you cannot see or smell the coastline, you probably do not need the upgrade. This upgrade is not generally necessary for inland installations where the air does not carry the same level of salt and corrosive minerals, preserving the panel’s longevity and performance in environments where salt air is a constant factor. Can any tek product be upgraded?

Yes, any TEK product can be upgraded to a coastal model, but this upgrade is exclusively available for coastline homeowners, specifically those living on the coast, who are working through a licensed TEK Dealer. This upgrade, providing a salt air enhancement, can only be obtained if you are working with a licensed dealer, and your representative is the sole authority that can secure this optional upgrade for you. We apply a protective resin coating to the back during production, customizing your chosen metal profile and color to provide enhanced resistance against salt and corrosive minerals. This upgrade offers peace of mind for those living by the coast. However, please note that such special orders require a longer manufacturing lead time. It’s advisable to consult with your contractor to discuss the extended timeline to ensure this upgrade aligns with your schedule. With this custom enhancement, your TEK product not only retains its aesthetic appeal but also performs reliably in the harsh coastal environment.
